What can overseas advertising APIs do across Meta, Google Ads and TikTok?
Advertising APIs do more than download reports. Meta, Google Ads and TikTok provide interfaces for campaign operations, creative and audience assets, performance reporting, conversion signals and account governance. Their objects, permissions, products and attribution rules differ, so a shared system cannot safely treat them as interchangeable fields. Wavesteam recommends starting with read-only reporting and alerts, then adding conversion feedback, and only later enabling budget-limited, approved write actions. For a few accounts and infrequent changes, native dashboards or an established SaaS product are usually better value.
Four distinct capability groups
- Campaign-management APIs create or update campaigns, groups, ads, budgets, bids, targeting, keywords, assets and status.
- Reporting and insights APIs return aggregate spend, impressions, clicks, engagement, conversions and value for dashboards, reconciliation and anomaly detection.
- Conversions and events APIs send permitted purchase, lead, qualified-sale, refund, app or offline events back to a platform. They are not APIs for extracting personal lists and do not remove cross-platform attribution overlap.
- Business-asset and event APIs manage authorised accounts, audiences, catalogues, lead webhooks and review states, within the platform's account, market, product and app-review constraints.
Platform differences
| Platform | Representative capabilities | Strong use cases | Key cautions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Meta | Campaign, Ad Set, Ad and Creative management; Insights; Conversions API; eligible audience and catalogue assets | Multi-market social campaigns, catalogue ads, CRM lead capture and server-side conversion events | Creative, ad and identity relationships are complex; permissions, API versions, breakdown combinations and privacy thresholds affect results |
| Google Ads | Query or mutate Campaign, Ad Group, Ad, Asset, Keyword, Criterion and Budget resources; GAQL reporting; offline or click conversion upload | Search and keyword operations, Shopping or Performance Max, manager-account reporting and CRM outcome feedback | Resource compatibility, developer token, OAuth, quotas and account hierarchy matter; some campaign types or settings are not writable |
| TikTok | Campaign, Ad Group, Ad, creative and audience operations; sync or async reports; lead/review webhooks; web, app, offline and CRM events | Short-video asset operations, Spark Ads coordination, creative monitoring, lead sync and commerce events | Marketing and Organic APIs are separate; access varies by market, objective, account eligibility and scope |
Official starting points include Meta's Business SDK, Insights API and Conversions API; Google's mutate operations, campaign overview and onboarding requirements; and TikTok's API for Business portal.

Campaign-like objects are not semantically identical. Preserve each platform's original resource model and values, then add the company's own business labels, approvals and metric definitions. A universal campaign table designed too early normally hides platform-specific controls.
Access also requires more than an account password. Meta needs an application, tokens and approved advertising permissions; Google needs a manager account, developer token and OAuth; TikTok requires developer registration, scopes and advertiser authorisation. Third-party tools may also require app review, a privacy policy and permission escalation, so external approval time cannot be promised as development time.
Practical scenarios
- Multi-market launch drafts: create paused campaign and creative drafts from approved product, inventory, price, landing-page and localisation data. A human verifies budget, country, language, tracking and preview before publication.
- Cross-account monitoring: collect spend, impressions, clicks, conversions and value, preserving account, time-zone, currency, attribution and metric-version context. Read-only access makes this a sensible first phase.
- CRM outcome feedback: associate permitted click or lead identifiers with qualified leads, contracts, cancellations or refunds, then send valid events within each platform's rules. Corporate CRM remains the operational source of truth.
- Creative-performance loop: map source assets and usage rights to platform assets and ad objects, then return performance data to the asset library. One upload is not automatically reusable across every placement or identity.
- Guardrailed actions: propose or execute limited pauses and budget changes based on inventory, availability or agreed thresholds. Require account and field allowlists, per-change and daily limits, approval, idempotency, before/after snapshots, audit logs, emergency stop and human rollback.
Do not automate unlimited changes from a single day's ROAS. Attribution windows, delayed conversions, learning phases and small samples can all produce misleading signals.
Other channels should be added because they change a business decision, not to claim complete coverage. LinkedIn's Marketing APIs may suit B2B audiences and leads; Microsoft Advertising APIs cover search campaign and reporting workflows; Amazon Ads API supports eligible retail and DSP use cases; and Apple Ads Campaign Management API supports App Store campaign operations.
Build or buy
| Situation | Default recommendation |
|---|---|
| Few accounts, weekly manual work, platform-native metrics | Keep using Ads Manager and spreadsheets |
| Standard cross-channel dashboard with no internal workflow integration | Trial an established connector or BI SaaS and verify coverage, history and total cost |
| Many brands, countries or agencies with repetitive setup and permission work | Assess a unified workspace, beginning with read-only and draft modes |
| Inventory, products, CRM outcomes, refunds or internal approvals affect decisions | Build a controlled integration while retaining platform-native values |
| Goal is to replace operations, creative strategy and compliance with “full automation” | Do not proceed; APIs execute actions but cannot own brand or commercial responsibility |
Value should be measured as avoided repetitive work, fewer errors, shorter data delays and new actionable decisions, minus API-version upgrades, authorisation maintenance, monitoring, data backfills and operations. Media spend, third-party tools and implementation costs should remain separate.
Wavesteam first recommends one of four paths: remain in native dashboards, buy a mature tool, build data-only integration, or develop a controlled operations workspace. A custom first phase normally includes an account and permission matrix, platform object mapping, token design, raw-data retention, metric definitions, alerts and approval flows, API services, audit logs, tests and operating documentation.
Acceptance must cover authorisation and revocation, reconciliation against platform dashboards, pagination, async jobs, rate-limit backoff, expired tokens, duplicate events, late conversions, partial failure, rejected creative, blocked unauthorised writes, budget caps, emergency stop, API deprecation and recovery. Write operations should be rehearsed with test facilities or paused drafts; production budget is not a substitute for a test environment.
The customer owns advertiser identity, content rights, objectives, budget approval, lawful data sources and local legal advice. Wavesteam owns the agreed analysis, platform verification, architecture, security, implementation, testing and operations. Platforms own account eligibility, API permissions, ad review, delivery, attribution, quotas and policy enforcement.
Platform products, versions, scopes and regional access change. The external capabilities above were checked on 25 August 2026 and must be verified again against the customer's authorised accounts before scope and launch are committed.
